April #5bythe5th 5k

4 Apr

I am currently participating in Laura’s (aka MommyRunFast) virtual race series where  runners and walkers squeeze in a 5k or 5Miler before the 5th of each month! You can check it out here!

Adam and I hit the Newport News Park trails after work for a 5k walk. We decided to walk this month’s virtual race since we ran a 10 miler last weekend and will be running the Cherry Blossom 10 miler this weekend. Too many races in such a short amount of time!

I really enjoyed slowing down while stopping to read the park signs and historical markers found in the park. Here are a few sights from our 5k stroll!

Earthworks! It might not look like much from the picture, but the park is covered with historical Earthworks from a Civil War Battle.  The small mound was formed by Confederate Soldiers to help hold back the Union during the Battle of Yorktown.

IMG_1954Warwick River! The body of water is the focal point of the park! While exploring the park we discovered small boats and paddle boats for rent! Paddle boating- now that is a workout! We will be testing our legs out this summer while paddling our way around the area!

What did you see along your 5k or 5Mile walk or run?

Yeah, beautiful park. I want to go there! I like my parks, but I get park-envy when I see pictures of nice places and I want to go to them and run on the trails!
