Long Weekends Are The BEST

22 Jan

Can we all agree that weekends should start with a 2 hour snow delay Friday and end with a Monday off? Yes, you all agree!

My weekend actually started early with a special meal from our friend Chris! He used his amazing skills to whip up a fancy weeknight dinner. Lamb. Sweet Potato Fries. Asparagus. Rolls. Amazing.  “Chef Chris” is also a running and crossfit buddy, so ladies you will hear more about him!

Weeknight Magic

I usually save my longer runs for Saturday mornings. Is there a better way to kick start an awesome Saturday? Adam and I decided to mix a few hills into our Saturday 5 miler. We finished just under an hour (58 mins moving time) after a slow start. 1. Snowy sidewalks must melt. 2. Must remember proper hydration mixture. 3. It’s cold-Dont’ forget the gloves. We finally made it out the door around 11 AM, guess that is better than never!

Garmin Maps-How does that little watch know where I went? Still Amazed.

A 2 lap jog around Belle Isle was also squeezed into our long weekend. Belle Isle  is a history book in my back yard. You can read more about the area here. History, amazing views, and clean trails help create a running/biking/hiking hotspot in RVA.

Walking Bridge to the Isle and Dirt Trails for running/biking

My favorite thing about Belle Isle is the lap the trail creates. Adam joined me for the first lap, then picked up the pace for the second lap. Unlike running around town this gave him the opportunity to exit the slow lane and practice a little speed work without running too far ahead! We were able to run together and easily meet back up with no back tracking. Totally makes running with the boy more enjoyable for both of us!

Do you run with your significant other? How do you handle pace differences?

Hey, thanks for stopping by my blog. I’m enjoying reading yours. My husband bicycles as I run and we meet up at different spots.

I like the bicycle idea! Maybe we can work that into my long weekend runs- he thinks running 10 miles is a little crazy!
